Currently on tour and playing in London on the 4th & 7th December, this song caught my ear a few months ago on the Groove Garden Fresh picks Playlist, and is from London-based, Little Chalfont-bred Jack Garratt.
Tough one to classify, it’s part pop, part electro, part-R&B – and he’s a 22 year old musician/producer/songwriter hotly tipped by Huw Stephens and BBC Introducing.
I picked this one, especially because of the lull into a sense of calm and peaceful thought before you’re ripped out of it with a heavy bassline. Bit of a roller coaster really – like the relationship described in the lyrics:
It’s from his 4-track EP, Remnants, released earlier this year, and if latest track “The Love You’re Given“, released 4 days ago, is anything to go by….he’s heading in the direction of James Blake, with a little more soulful R&B. Couldn’t justify leaving it out:
Smooth. One to watch for 2015.
