Bat And Ball

Bat and Ball – We Prefer It In The Dark EP (2013)

First post of 2014 – a month in so I’ve had a bit of time to listen to a LOT of new music. This is is one from London-based duo Bat and Ball who seem to label themselves “polka-dot-pop”.

The beautifully honest female vocal from Abi Sinclair, the “sister” part of the brother-sister pairing (brother = Chris Sinclair), has led to numerous comparisons to the ethereal, dramatic pop of London Grammar’s sound, but hers is more raw, less other-worldly.

In this song, “We Prefer It In The Dark”, it’s also a little less intense, a little more scornful….and not at all gut wrenching.

Yes – Bat and Ball’s sound is vocally female-led, yes, it’s backed by indie-electronic sonics but for me, they’re nothing like London Grammar. They have their own low-key, understated and slightly jittery style – and that’s why you should listen to them and make up your own mind, whether you love London Grammar or don’t.

“We Prefer It In The Dark” is from their debut EP of the same name, released in October last year:
