I imagine this would play well in True Blood if it were a little less gory and a little more romantic (the show, not the song, from Valerie June):
60s, soulful and sad – re-invent the soundtrack to A Bronx Tale and it might well fit there too – she brings together a mix of blues, gospel and country in a sound that transports you to the Deep South, which is where American singer-songwriter Valerie June is from…Memphis, Tennessee.
She’s already performed Later… with Jools Holland, toured with Jake Bugg and is now playing her own sold out headline show in London at Islington Assembly Hall on 26th November – drawing comparisons to Dolly Parton and Billie Holliday along the way.
This is one from her 2013 album Pushin’ Against A Stone, released on British label Sunday Best and perfectly represents her self-styled “organic moonshine roots music”.
Look out for more from Valerie June…
