I must be the only music blogger in the music blogging blogosphere to not have posted anything about BANKS yet. So here it is:
I have been known to get obsessed with a song and play it a few times on repeat over a period…but rarely 6 times in one hour and even more rarely, again after that – and even less frequently does a song have the same or more impact every time I hear it. That’s what’s happened with this song.
BANKS isn’t exactly an unknown anymore – she’s touring intensively in the US at the moment supporting The Weeknd, she’s already working with a plethora of incredible producers and she has 2 EPs out so far this year which are both already on Spotify and über-played on SoundCloud.
But as you know, this blog isn’t just about new, it’s about (what I think is) good. BANKS is better than good – this song, especially, is the perfect blend of 90s R&B influenced soul and the dark, trippy electronica that’s so *now*. It’s also my favourite track from this year’s London EP:
Waiting for the day she comes over to the UK (that’s where London is…the City that presumably inspired the title of her London EP?) to do some London shows.
Over 323 thousand plays as of writing. Told you I was late to the blog-party.
