This track initally caught my ear because the progression sounds very similar, in my head, to the Soft Cell 80s new wave classic, Tainted Love.

I keep playing it again because Shona Foster’s quavering spectre of a voice, sometimes burlesque, sometimes folk, and this track especially, could soundtrack a remake of The Addams Family, or one of my personal 80s favourites, Beetlejuice.

Shona Foster - The Moon & You

Shona Foster - The Moon & You (2011)

There’s a lot of her music available in full on at the moment or you can stream her 2011 release, The Moon & You (Beach Hut), on Spotify. Coincidentally, she’s playing The London Olympics Bandstand tomorrow, 31 July but her sound is one that would be perfect for London’s historic Wilton’s Music Hall.

Scottish-born, Yorkshire-bred and Brighton-lived, I really hope she’s playing The Great Escape next year. Her music would be haunting at St. Mary’s Church, especially with a Chris Garneau duet.
