Summer Romance – The Soundtrack
This sweltering heat (?!) has led me to post a few of my recent female-led finds – the perfect soundtrack for the host of Summer romances that should be kicking off right…about….
The first is by LA based duo, Rhye - whose smooth vocal style and lazy, soulful rhythms could backdrop a quiet “are they friends, are they more than that?” moment. Slow and steady are the strings that lead us into the story. The single was released on Innovative Leisure in Feb and is from EP, Open [amazon].
No Summer Romance is complete without drama, and I’ve been waiting for this track from Ren Harvieu to be released for about 4 months. Finally released digitally by Island as part of full album Through The Night [amazon] on May 14th – I bought it straight away. She’s from Lancashire, and her voice belongs in 40s-50s Hollywood, or a 60s Bond Theme. The doo wop style and big band instrumentation build as the whirlwind commences (no stream I’m afraid – last.fm link).
On cloud nine as the romance continues – I’ve posted about this one before: living in another century where ballrooms and white tuxedos were the norm. Try watching this So You Think You Can Dance clip with the sound replaced by Claire Nicolson (maybe ignore the backflip). Or better yet, this one from US Season 8. Released on Canned Records.
And finally…a choose your own adventure:
Option 2 – The romantic in me wants to win out on this one, and Wild Child, from Austin TX, bring the hopeful twist. Released on Major Nation Records, the enchanting Darling Divine.
You tell me…
