Hey Rosetta! – Yer Spring
I wanted to post something today that fits the sunshine. I have a whole long list of songs/bands in my ‘to blog’ to-do list but this is something I’ve only just found recently – it’s a song by Canadian band Hey Rosetta! from their 2011 album Seeds.
I’ve heard the name of the band before but for some reason didn’t pay them much attention – seems I’m a bit behind on this one as they’ve been around for a while, @dannythe405 said he bought the singer and ‘cellist a drink at TGE 2008 and they gave him their album! Nice folks.
This song got to me couple of weeks ago – warm and intense vocals, with a triumphant strings section in the hands of ‘cellist Romesh Thavanathan and violinist Kinley Dowling.
They remind me a little of Fanfarlo at times (have you heard “Luna”? Recording their second album at the moment.) – it starts quite softly and builds into an exultant chorus of voices and instruments that’ll lift your spirits if yesterday’s London thunderstorms resurface.
It’s definitely one for a sunny day – either during or wishing for one! – they’re playing Upstairs at the Garage on 10 May and will also be at Brighton’s Great Escape.
