Lia Ices is another one to add to the ever-growing list…and I hate to admit it but it might be because, although I can carry a tune so it’s reasonably recognisable, my voice just doesn’t cut it.
So it’s admiration, I think, as well as just the pleasure I get from listening, that lends them to my ear.
It’s a track from her second album, of the same name, released on Jagjaguwar last week and, in the case of this song especially, she reminds me of Sarah MacLachlan, but updated and emboldened with strength borrowed from Glasser.
I wish she were lined up with James Vincent McMorrow, or doing her own show, at St. Pancras Church – an impromptu duet would be incredible – but she’ll be at Windmill Brixton on 23rd Feb, and Upstairs @ The Garage the following day.
If either of their managers happen to stumble across this…please sort it!
