I know a lot of people aren’t so keen on covers – as I’ve said before it’s often difficult to do the original justice – but I’ve found another one that I think pays homage to the original whilst changing it in a way that reflects the style of the covering artist.
First Aid Kit – When I Grow Up (Fever Ray Cover)
Thankfully nothing whatsoever to do with the Pussycat Dolls, First Aid Kit have managed to soften the signature Fever Ray edge of a track featured on the self-titled 2008 release. It was put out as a digital B-side on Wichita Recordings last month and their debut full-length, The Big Black & The Blue, was released in the UK in February of this year but doesn’t feature this track.
I saw the duo in March of this year, at Union Chapel – the perfect venue for the ethereal voices leading their haunting Swedish folk. Songkick says no shows coming up at the moment, but I’d say it’s most definitely worth keeping an eye out for them….
