The Besnard Lakes – Like The Ocean, Like The Innocent Pt. 2: The Innocent
Haven’t had a really meaty, long, song title up here since “The Hazards of Love 1 (The Prettiest Whistles Won’t Wrestle the Thistles Undone)”…
The Besnard Lakes – Like The Ocean, Like The Innocent Pt. 2: The Innocent
This album took me a while to get into and, I have to say, when I first listened to the tracks on their MySpace I wasn’t all that impressed. But luckily, it came into the office, was played on the stereo and got a second, thoroughly deserved listen.
This is my favourite song on the album, The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night, released on Jagjaguwar in March. It is epic.
The song is beautifully cinematic, reminiscent of Grizzly Bear and the owners of the lengthily-titled song above, The Decemberists, at times, and even a little bit of Department Of Eagles but less dramatic crescendo, more slow burn.
And… they’re Canadian (that’s a little outdated – since then, CFCF, Our Lady Peace).
Enough said.
