Warpaint

It’s an over-used cliché but the vocals literally make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

The band are (from their last.fm profile):

Warpaint - Exquisite Corpse EP

Emily Camille Kokal (vocals / guitar)
Theresa Becker Wayman (vocals / guitar / keys / drums)
Jenny Lee Lindberg (bass / vocals)
M. Quinn (drums / cello)
Josh Klinghoffer (drums / guitar / keys)

Formed in LA in 2007 but their first EP, Exquisite Corpse, wasn’t released until March of this year and is on Manimal Vinyl Records.

The track that made me want to hear more is Billie Holiday, mainly because it drops into Mary Wells’ My Guy which took me a little by surprise, but I moved on to Elephants and Stars – equally beautiful, if a little more overtly electro/indie respectively.

It’s just hit me that I may like it so much because it reminds me of the Emily Haines ethereal vocal style…if you like Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton, you may well enjoy warpaint.
