Trick or treat?
I don’t know about you but when I think Halloween soundtrack, I think crazy metal – though I do appreciate that eerie & spooky is often what’s required, rather than frantic, scary & loud.
There unfortunately isn’t too much of it in my musical knowledgebase, but the tracks that are in there are, at least in my opinion, immense.
Here’re a few of them:
Slipknot – Wait and Bleed – this is hair-raising even when not accompanied by the visual of barcoded boiler suits and weird masks.
Taproot – Again & Again – a track that would just be a pretty heavy rock song if it weren’t for the frequent drops into demonic screamo.
Disturbed – Stupify – particularly excellent when it kicks in at about 1min.
P.O.D – Alive – This is the final triumph track, or the closing credits. Perfect for when the close-knit group of friends with the dark secret are safe once more…or are they?
Adema – Giving In – The video for this is a bit freaky if I remember correctly. People in weird costumes floating in glass boxes of water.
Deftones – Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) – Not frantic & loud Halloween in the same way as the above, more epic and powerful (not Grizzly Bear epic, in case you’re wondering).
A Perfect Circle – Judith – So much contempt and anger…a great “betrayal” track, and a far cry from my favourite of theirs, Three Libras.
Papa Roach – Last Resort – Desperation.
Three Days Grace – I Hate Everything About You – The title says it all.
and the final one…
Rage Against the Machine – Wake Up – No Halloween metal playlist would be complete without some Rage…
I haven’t added these to the musings spotify playlist for fear of scaring anyone who’s listening to it on shuffle out of their skin! But it has its very own baby one…I’ve called it Hallowemo, because I’ve gone a bit more nu metal than I had originally intended.
And if this is not to your liking…here’s a much less (i.e. NO) metal, bit more fun party playlist from blogtillyoudrop: b-uncut’s Halloween Playlist.
An excellent list. Props for including Adema, not so many people have heard them as the others on your list. Here’s my Halloween playlist: http://mindspoon.wordpress.com/2009/10/24/halloween-themed-playlist
Enjoy ^_^
