She Keeps Bees

She Keeps Bees

I came across this band while I was skimming through the Pure Groove In-Stores listings a week or so ago and I cannot stop listening to them.

It isn’t any one song in particular – it’s the general vibe of the band. Sultry, sexy vocals from lead singer Jessica Larrabee and heavily distorted 60s rock-style guitars, chilled but somehow still dramatic drums from Andy LaPlant with a tinkly tambourine to complete the retro sound.

If I could swap my voice with any singer alive today, I think I might seriously consider Jessica Larrabee (although pretty much anyone would be a trade-up from my own voice…).

Hailing from Brooklyn, NYC – the band are doing a couple of shows in the UK, one at Pure Groove which is up on the London Gigs page, and then a few more at the Borderline, the Old Queen’s Head and the Windmill. Details on their MySpace.

Having said it isn’t any song in particular – I have to say, I love ‘Stutter’ (mainly because of the lyric “I was sent to heal you”) and ‘Gimmie’ because it’s especially psychedelic.
