I’m wondering how many people, like me, have a history of calling these guys ‘nerd’ instead of ‘N-E-R-D’…
I find myself using both from time to time when people look at me with a “what on earth are you talking about, you weirdo?” expression despite my repeating the letters ‘N-E-R-D’ in sequence…I then try ‘NERD’ and often get “Oh! N-E-R-D!” as a response. Is it something about the way I say it…?
This was the first song I heard of theirs, back in the early 2000’s – and it conveniently came along at a time when I was trying to reconcile my appreciation of hip-hop with my brother’s rock influence over my listening habits.
I’ve since seen them live at The Roundhouse – a show that was more like a massive party than a live music gig, in the best possible way. I have a lot of respect for bands that attempt to cross genre-related boundaries and N*E*R*D are one of them there bands.
Combining elements of hip-hop, rock, r&b, pop, drum&bass and even jazz at times, their music has often been the “silent” soundtrack to my impromptu dancing on the London Underground. If anyone has the CCTV footage, please e-mail me.
