Ludacris – The Potion
…and an entirely different post number two:
This track came up on my iPod yesterday while I was walking to a mate’s house and it reminded me of the movie genre that has seen an abundance of new members in recent times – the beloved Teen Dance Movie.

Step Up 2: The Streets
Featured in the movie, “Step Up 2: The Streets”, but annoyingly not on the soundtrack (which I very nearly bought until I realised this fact), the infectious beat and quirky sound effects will have even the most mal-coordinated and rhythmically challenged among us seriously considering buying a pair of pineapple trackies and running to our nearest dance studio to learn how to pop n lock…or you could try this.
Some thoughts on this and a few other fairly recent gems from the delusion-inspiring club:
Step Up 2: The Streets – Outshining the original for me, mainly because of the variety of routines at the club competition and the rain-soaked energy of the climactic performance. The misunderstood geek-to-cool transformations add to the appeal. I won’t mention the formulaic plot, you can read about that on Rotten Tomatoes.
Step Up – Too much teen romance, not enough dancing…and the soundtrack isn’t nearly as cool.
You Got Served – Such an unexpected find. The ‘keep our kids off the streets’ story is über-cheesy but there’s little romance to speak of that I can remember and the routines are sick (has someone hacked into my wordpress account?). It even has its own South Park “tribute” episode.
Honey – How much did they pay Missy Elliott for her cameo…? Jessica Alba choreographing a basketball-inspired dance routine for a music video. Or at least that’s what I got from the movie.
Save the Last Dance – Inserting an interracial relationship element into the rich boy/girl- poor boy/girl template, I actually really like this one, although the story is more of a focal point than the dancing.
Note how only one of these scored over 25% on Rotten Tomatoes…won’t stop me watching them.
