Jude – I Know
I first heard this song when I bought the soundtrack to the movie ‘City of Angels’ (this link has strange versions of the tracks on it so I’ll try and point you to the real ones) towards the end of the nineties but recently picked it up again when I was ripping all my music to put on my iPod – the CD was gathering dust in a box with all my R&B singles from that period!
For me, it’s about the contradiction between appearance and reality – I don’t really know what to say about it other than that it’s beautiful, poignant and deeply melancholy.
The soundtrack itself is also excellent – some of my other favourites on it are:

If you haven’t seen the film, I would highly recommend it – but don’t judge it on the ending (I keep hoping it will have changed every time I watch it….but it was made before the era of alternate ending DVD features)
